Shaila Mehta recently joined Grant Thornton as a Partner in the Assurance practice. Previously she was a Partner at Deloitte and served a number of cannabis companies, one of which was the largest in Canada at the time. Shaila has spent the last three and a half years serving clients in the cannabis space and has provided a variety of different services to them. Some of her experiences in cannabis include: 1) Audit services to companies (private and public) with operations in Canada and companies with operations in the U.S. 2) Audit of purchase price allocations for cannabis companies and ensured the complex transactions entered into by the companies were accounted for appropriately. 3) Helped companies establish a solid internal controls environment 4) Helped companies establish their IPO readiness plan such that they are well positioned to go public 5) Recently took a company public on the TSX 6) Assisted companies with their filings of prospectuses and other public documents 7) Helped companies with M&A and ancillary activities 8) Involved in due diligence for potential acquisitions made by cannabis companies (both Canadian and overseas) 9) Delivered training sessions to c-suite individuals at cannabis companies on a variety of financial reporting and internal control items.
Shaila graduated from York University with a BBA in 1989 and obtained her CA in 1990. She is currently a board member of the Responsible Gaming Council of Canada and Ontario and was past-chair for the United Way of Peel.
